Pichavaram mangrove forest/lake will take 2-3 hrs off and visit early morning to beat the heat on a pleasure trip if you want.

Chettinad is an interesting place to travel to whether you are an antiquarian or a tourist. Chettinad is famous as the land of Chettiars, the wealthiest merchant families in Tamil Nadu.

Things to do: shopping in Chettinad you will be overwhelmed by the large number of antique shops and the range of antiques-from mugs and bowls from Czechoslovakia to bamboo boxes from Burma.Chettinad is the place where you can buy exquisite antique furniture as home décor.

Weekend getaway from Chennai - Rameshwaram

The city is a pilgrimage center being home to some of the most spectacular places of worship in the country and is amongst the best places to visit around Chennai. Apart from these pilgrims, Rameswaram is a small fishing town on an island by the name.

Things to do: Due to the rich cultural heritage of the place, you’d be intrigued by the sightseeing options in Rameshwaram.

Take an overnight train to Rameshwaram or travel to Madurai and take a train/bus from there to Rameshwaram. Visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple in the morning. This is one of the Pancha bhoota lingams of Lord Shiva

Visit the Spatika linga darshan early morning, have the abhishekam prasad from Spatika Lingam. You can buy a special darshan ticket or through people who stand there, or through your hotel. I went at 4:30 am in the morning and the line was already big.

Later went to the line near where I can have 22 Theertha wells. Each well water had a different taste. Completed the bathing ritual

I took a ticket for Rudrabhishekam and had a wonderful and closeby darshan of Ramalingaswamy and went back to Chennai in the morning train itself.

You can stay entire day visit nearby temples, Dhanuskodi beach and then take a night train back to Chennai

Weekend getaway from Chennai - Chandragiri

Less than a four-hour drive from Chennai, Chandragiri is often overlooked as a weekend destination due to its proximity to Tirupati.
